Brief Description

Pollards Hill Housing Estate was built in 1968-71, a high density scheme that included various areas of green space in the form of private gardens, partly enclosed squares and a public park, Donnelly Green, named after Mitcham's Head of Parks. The closes and roads within the estate are named after various counties of England and Wales. To the north of Recreation Way is Pollards Hill Recreation Ground, abutting school grounds. The path leading up Pollards Hill provides good views.

Full Site Description

Pollards Hill Housing Estate was designed by the Merton Borough Architects Department and provided high density housing in a landscaped setting. The 16.6-hectare estate consists of three-storey blocks of houses and flats 'in an ingenious rectilinear Greek-key meander' (Nikolaus Pevsner) with various areas of green space provided in the form of private gardens, partly enclosed squares and a public park at Donnelly Green, named after Mr Donnelly, Head of Parks for Mitcham.
