The Garden

Gloucester Square Residents' Gardens can be found in a tranquil, tree-lined residential square, between Haggerston Park and Regent’s Canal, onto which it opens. It was originally built in 1987 as part of an affordable housing project on a former industrial site. In 2009, residents decided to rejuvenate the flowerbeds after years of neglect. The garden now features a central landscaped sanctuary and established herbaceous flowerbeds. The garden received a Gold award for Best Community Project in Hackney in Bloom (2013) and a Bronze award for Best Community Garden (2014) from the East London Gardening Society. The square has also been featured on BBC Gardeners' World as part of their 2022 Hampton Court Flower Show coverage.
