Harington was established in 1980 by local people in Highgate, North London, to advance the education, training and social development of young people aged 16 - 25 years, with learning difficulties, learning disabilities, behavioural difficulties or mental health needs. The scheme provides employability training, life skills and horticultural and retail training, for a more rewarding and independent life.
The main location occupies a 1.4-acre green site, tucked away in a corner of Highgate, and is used for a wide variety of student education and all-year-round horticulture learning activities. This year Harington has 54 students, each with their individual Education, Health and Care Plan. They are taught in the classroom alongside learning practical skills in the gardens, where they grow and harvest plants, vegetables and herbs.
