This garden was made famous in the 1999 film Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts; the couple climbed a fence to sneak into the private communal gardens at night. It is part of the Ladbroke Estate, which also includes Arundel Gardens and St John’s Gardens - see ladbrokeassociation.org for more details about the Estate. In 1823, prominent London architect Thomas Allason planned out these generous communal gardens. They were organised in a concentric layout of crescents; the outer crescents date from the 1860s.
Regretfully, due to the entry to this garden via steep steps, it is not accessible to wheelchair users.
Award-winning south-facing courtyard, enclosed by walls on three sides. Planting includes herbaceous perennials, climbers and tender sub-tropical plants which flourish in a microclimate.
A peaceful woodland garden in the heart of the historic Ladbroke Estate, the quiet disturbed only by birdsong and the bells of St John's, Notting Hill.
