Approach Gardens
The Garden
This award-winning community garden in London's vibrant East End showcases a beautiful blend of diverse cultures with a shared passion for gardening, food-growing and nature. Located near Columbia Road's iconic flower market, Approach Gardens is managed by a resident-led committee that revitalised the site with support from the National Lottery. The space now includes over 40 raised growing beds, which provide a unique mix of Asian and heirloom vegetables, a fruit orchard, and a dedicated wildlife area. Highlights include native hedgerows, nectar bars, a wildflower meadow, bug hotels, bat boxes and ivy-covered walls that attract bees and other pollinators. Accolades include the London in Bloom Silver 'Thriving Garden' award and multi-year recognition in the Tower Hamlets in Bloom Awards for Best Community Garden and Best Wildlife Garden. Our community grow site is a cherished sanctuary for local families, schoolchildren, and day-care groups.Chair: Margaret Wilson
