This 'pocket' square garden used to be a bare area with three large plane trees, filled by post-war rubble and surrounded by an ugly chain fence that had replaced the original Victorian railing.
Over 30 years, residents have planted this area with shade-loving smaller trees and shrubs, and perennial and annual flowers, following similarly environmental practices to the large square garden. It is now a green ornamental respite for residents and passer-by alike and an example how a community effort can transform and improve urban, built-in areas, and help to address the flooding risks, pollution and noise pressures.
Award-winning long, rectangular garden with a beautiful woodland area, wildflowers at the east end, a rose garden at the west end and a long herbaceous border. There is also a children's play area and maze.
