The Garden

Royal Crescent Gardens were laid out in 1846 by Robert Cantwell. Perimeter iron railings were restored in 1997 and the gardens were redesigned from 2003. A rose and herbaceous border - replanted for Spring to Autumn interest by up-and-coming garden designer Elizabeth Tyler in Spring 2023 - surrounds an oak gazebo centrepiece. The garden has two magnificent plane trees which are over 175 years old, a tulip tree, and new plantings including elm, Parrotia, a Lagerstroemia, an Indian horse chestnut and Hungarian oak.

The gardens won the Kensington Society award for garden design in 2007 and won first prize for North Kensington garden squares under the Brighter Kensington and Chelsea Scheme in 2008. The garden has also come second in the same competition for a number of years, most recently in 2021 and 2022.
