Brompton Park (Hammersmith & Fulham)

Brief Description

A private park open to the public, Brompton Park is a small open space at the south end of the Brompton Park Crescent Estate created in the 1980s. The gated estate was built on the site of the West London Free Hospital, later the Brompton Hospital, which was laid out with internal open spaces. The plane trees in the park and on the estate survive from that time.

Full Site Description

The effect of the mature trees in the park produces what looks like a narrow grassed carriageway leading south to north across the park. The edges of the park have been laid out as shrubs and flower beds, and some of this planting such as the Pampas grass might derive from the original layout. On its north, south and east sides, the park is bounded by low iron railings and overlooked by four-storey flats, predominantly in black and white with bold details. On the east is a new wall of yellow brick and iron railings with an engraved and painted slate panel giving the name of the park. Between this wall and the park is a small area with under 5s equipment. Residents of the estate have use of the communal gym and swimming pool.
