What roles are needed?
At London Parks & Gardens volunteers carry out a wide range of roles depending on their own interests and abilities, from Area Co-ordinators for London Square Open Gardens Weekend to Website Manager, and from Membership Secretary to organising activities and undertaking research. As a volunteer, you should be given a role description, which outlines what work you will be doing and how that fits within the wider team.
Who can volunteer?
Our volunteers represent all ages and abilities; they come from all over London and from all backgrounds, bringing a variety of skills and experiences. What unites them is a passion for London and its historic green spaces, as well as a desire to work together to increase understanding and concern for them.
If you are interested, please complete the Volunteer Registration Form (in Word format).
Current Roles we are looking to fill
We have a number of ongoing vacancies in the categories below – do just get in touch. We will also advertise specific roles here on a regular basis, so do keep coming back to this page in case there is something that takes your interest.
London Open Gardens
Our brilliant volunteers enable the public to enjoy 40,000 special garden visits during the LOG weekend every June and they receive a free ticket as our thanks. We warmly welcome new volunteers and you can find more information here.
Planning & Conservation
Our Planning & Conservation Working Group is looking for volunteers willing to join the group as active members.
The group’s main remit is to draft responses to planning applications which affect London’s parks, gardens and green spaces (historic or otherwise) on behalf of the charity, in its role as statutory consultee (on behalf of The Gardens Trust).
We are especially interested in volunteers with knowledge of the planning system and historic environment issues. However, the main requirements are passion and enthusiasm for the subject, a willingness to learn and the ability to commit some time, as far as you are able.
Research
Are you excited by London’s green spaces? Would you like to help discover the fascinating history behind them? If so, this is the group for you.
One of the most important activities of the charity is its research into London’s parks, gardens and open spaces. The Research Group is friendly, lively and very active; we meet in central London every few months to report on research findings, attend training days and educational visits, and share good research practice. Our all-important research findings feed into not only our local Inventory of London Historic Spaces but also the national Parks & Gardens UK resource.
Events
We organise a range of events throughout the year – both virtual and live. We are always looking for volunteers to help with these events.
Do you have expertise in events management or perhaps in supporting the technical side of events – AV, Zoom, Webinars and more? If so, please do get in touch and find out more about our events.
