Full Site Description

Housing development in the area had begun in the 1880s. Roxbourne Park was created in 1936 on an old landfill site. In the south of the park, actually in the London Borough of Hillingdon, a miniature railway was built over part of the old dump and continues to be run by the Harrow and Wembley Society of Model Engineers on Sunday afternoons from April to October. Harrow Parks Department Tree Nursery used to be located in the park, the site now built over by housing and a school. The park is predominantly playing fields, with a perimeter tarmac path, and some planting of trees and shrubs, but no formal areas. The Yeading Brook runs along the eastern boundary of the park, which has a wooded walk along the stream. The main area of the park is separated from this walk by trees and scrub, the riverbank fairly wild and overgrown, with willow and other trees and waterside plants. Now named Roxbourne Rough Nature Reserve, this area is managed by a Voluntary Warden and workdays are organised on a regular basis.
