Meet the LOG team: Anne Greig

Did you know that we rely on a dedicated team of Volunteers to help make London Open Gardens happen? Meet one of our Garden Coordinators, Anne Greig.

What’s your role at LOG?

I’m the Garden Coordinator which means I’m the main point of contact for some of the gardens who are participating. I may have invited them to take part, or we have an existing relationship from previous years. This year I’m looking after Camden, Belgravia, Pimlico and Westminster. These gardens include the historic Bedford Square, in Bloomsbury, the World Peace Garden and Branch Hill Allotments in Hampstead.

Are you a gardener yourself?

Yes! I find pleasure growing flowers and vegetables. I have an allotment and a roof terrace.

What do you enjoy most about being involved in LOG?

I enjoy finding new and unusual gardens and meeting the gardeners behind them. This year one of the new gardens I’ve brought in is an educational garden called The Harington Scheme in Highgate.

What would you recommend as a must-visit garden?

Mona’s Garden has a unique character. It’s private garden created by one person, Mona, around Corokias plants native to New Zealand. The BMA Garden (designed by Lutyens) and its gardener Daniela is also one of my favourite visits, with a warm welcome and always something unusual to see.

Why should someone visit LOG?

It’s a once in a year opportunity! The chance to see gardens in London normally closed to the public and to appreciate the large variety of London’s green spaces is so special. You can visit public parks all year round, but these gardens offer a whole new side to the capital.

Any advice for someone visiting LOG for the first time?

There’s over 100 gardens but don’t let that intimidate you. Choose an area or a theme, such as heritage gardens and community gardens and try and visit as many as possible. If you’re not sure, make use of the self-guided walks designed by the Garden Coordinators which will guide you around a specific area.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m excited about our new Behind-The-Scenes collection, we’re adding something new to the programme and it’s going to be great!
